A flat rural setting was the backdrop for this simple one-story farmhouse project. The flat site provided the opportunity to stretch the floor plan to maximize natural light, and provide each space with windows on two or more walls. The roof shape and building materials were informed by the local barn and farmhouse vernacular of the Central Texas region. The resulting plan resembles a historic dog trot layout with two masses connected by an ‘open breezeway'. In the case of this project, the open breezeway serves as a point of entry and dining room.
